The Roots are a family of traditions and community activism that started with their grandfather John Sr. a strong believer of Anthroposophy and Rudolf Steiner's Waldorf education whose influence trickled down to the children's Waldorf education and the family's sharing of their lives and home with special needs adults who become a part of the family.
Growing up in Cadmus, with other households in the area doing the same work has allowed the children to have many adventures with their extended family. John Jr. continues this adventuring with the Motorhome Journeys. And Illona's adventurous spirit motivated her to drive cross countryy, in 1999, moving 3000 miles westward. She arrived in Big Sur only to find herself pulled to the romantic city of San Francisco to pursue a Masters Degree in Expressive Arts Therapy. And finally meet the man of her dreams. And the rest is history.
